Specific Criteria by Grade

Promotion to CRHC Grade
  • Autonomous development and prospects of the scientific project
  • Quality of scientific output
  • Research ethics (data availability, publication of preprints, preference for non-profit or community-based journals rather than predatory ones – see below, appropriate consideration of the published literature, compatibility of research activities with sustainable development and gender equality)
  • Scientific project management
  • Integration within the host structure
  • Collective responsibilities (involvement in local and/or national scientific life)
  • Dissemination of knowledge and science outreach activities
  • Special attention will be given to applications at the final echelon.
  • Clear alignment with the themes of Section 24

Note: Promotion to CRHC grade is not incompatible with a subsequent advancement to DR2.


Promotion to DR1 Grade
  • Quality of scientific output
  • Transdisciplinary and/or international recognition
  • Renewal and enrichment of research questions in the field (originality of projects, emergence of new collaborations, pioneering publications, and initiatives in the field)
  • Collective responsibilities (experience in leadership, research management, and administration of collective needs)
  • Capacity to train researchers and delegate scientific responsibilities
  • Teaching, training, and science dissemination (organisation/participation in workshops, thematic schools, or international conferences; books, review articles, or book chapters; science outreach activities)
  • Valorisation – Technology transfer and links with industry (patent applications, industrial contracts)
  • Research ethics (data availability, publication of preprints, preference for non-profit or community-based journals rather than predatory ones – see below, consideration of the published literature, compatibility of research activities with sustainable development and gender equality)
  • Acquisition of national and/or international funding
  • Coordination of national or international projects
  • Clear alignment with the themes of Section 24

Promotion to DRCE Grade

In addition to the previous criteria:

  • Recognition of exceptional scientific qualities
  • Organisational responsibilities at the international level
  • Capacity to inspire and create a new research field
